HEDW Webinar: Self-Service Analytics is a Myth

Registration ends on 9/22/2025
Event Description
You are invited to register for the HEDW webinar Self-Service Analytics is a Myth on September 24, 2025 at 3:30pm EST.
Self-service analytics has long been framed as the ultimate path to data democratization. The promise is that any user can independently explore, analyze, and act on data. Yet, the promise rarely matches the practice. In higher education especially, organizational complexity, technical barriers, and cultural expectations often turn 'self-service' into 'shelf-service' with tools underused or misapplied.
Join Renee Henderson from the University of Missouri as she challenges the myth of self-service analytics and explores why the concept often fails to deliver on its ideals. Renee will highlight models that work: building ecosystems of support, clarifying and redefining roles, and fostering guided autonomy that balances flexibility with accountability. Attendees will leave with strategies to move beyond the myth and design analytics practices that actually empower people and sustain adoption.
Renee is a data leader known for her expertise in data visualization and user-centered analytics. She led the launch of the UM System's annual Data & Analytics Conference, and is a trusted advisor to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. She holds an MS in Data Science & Analytics from the University of Missouri and a BA in Communication from Truman State University. Her passion lies in making data accessible and actionable.
A Zoom link will be shared 24 hours in advance of the webinar.
